Quaker work

Justica stall at General MeetingOur belief in "that of God" in everyone has led Quakers to take up those causes which support people rejected or neglected by society. We also participate in campaigns and projects against violence and war, and work to help the environment.

Quakers are involved with the rehabilitation of released prisoners and seek alternatives to prison. We also work with young offenders.

Education is important to us too. There are eight Quaker schools in Britain, though most of the children at these schools come from non-Quaker families.

Some Quakers may work within an existing Quaker project, for example, our ecumenical accompaniment programme in Palestine and Israel. Others may participate in a non-Quaker project, such as volunteering in a homeless shelter. Many Quakers choose careers which could be seen as Quaker work, such as teaching, medicine or social work.
